Man, what a day!

Just leaving Oughterard. Denis is driving the bus. Trying to blog from a phone on twisty roads - so this will be brief. Fantasitc day, weatherwise, sunny, no wind and plenty of salty sweat. As Denis said "there's a world of pain out on that course" - and that was yesterday during the recce run. The pain increased for each half as the course got hillier and the miles took their toll on my legs - 1:43 for the half, 3:29 for the full and 5:29 for the ultra. John D was two minutes ahead @ 5:27 and Denis 6:29. We're all delighted with our dip into the ultra game. Thomas had a fantastic run coming in well ahead of me and smashing his PB. One final note is a huge congrats to Eagle's Annemarie Holland who won the womens event in 5:40 (I think). More later - much later! Ps: The winner smashed the 4:10 record coming in a few minutes under 4 hours - thats sub-2:40 Marathon Pace including the hilly final half marathon. Correction 4:03:29 (2:42 Marathon)

  4. Scott - Body not too bad and surprisingly my legs feel better than after the Barcelona Marathon 5 weeks ago - despite the cramping from mile 32.

  5. Fantastic Grellan! Although I tipped you to run 5:29, I was still a little surprised you did so well. Just a shame (for my Centrebet payout) that Thomas finished ahead ;) Did you stick to the run/walk schedule?

  10. I hope you're feeling as well as I do right now (i.e. manage to walk without screaming). Man, what a day indeed!
